How do I get started?

Open the app and follow the brief onboarding. You'll be invited to enable Apple's free Premium Spanish voice (iOS Settings › Accessibility › Live Speech) for the most natural pronunciation. From the home screen, choose Free Talk to converse with the Professor, Structured Lesson for a guided unit, or Photo Lesson to learn vocabulary from a real-world photo.

Why is the app so large to install?

Professor OrdinaryAI bundles a complete AI language model (about 3 GB) so that everything runs on your phone. There is no server, no subscription, and no internet required after install. The size is the privacy.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. After install, the app is fully offline. You can use it on a flight, in the subway, or anywhere with no signal.

Why does the app ask for microphone, camera, or photo access?

The microphone is for speaking practice — audio is processed locally by Apple's speech recognition and discarded immediately. Camera and photos power the Live Lens feature, which extracts Spanish text from real-world signs, menus, or labels. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I enable the Premium Spanish voice?

Open iOS Settings › Accessibility › Live Speech › Voices › Spanish › tap the cloud icon next to a voice marked Premium. Apple downloads it to your device for free. Once installed, Professor OrdinaryAI uses it automatically.

How do I reset my progress or delete my data?

Delete the app. Because everything is stored locally, removing the app removes all your data permanently. There is no cloud account, nothing to "log out" of, and nothing to email us about.

The app crashed or a lesson didn't load.

First, fully quit the app (swipe up from the home indicator, then swipe the app card away) and reopen it. If the problem persists, email us with your iPhone model and iOS version. We monitor every report and ship fixes regularly.

What languages are supported?

Version 1 supports Spanish for English speakers. Cantonese support is on the roadmap for a future update.

Will there be a subscription?

No. Professor OrdinaryAI is a one-time purchase. You get the full app forever, with content updates included.

Is my data ever sent to OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or any other AI company?

No. The AI model (Google's open-source Gemma) is bundled into the app and runs entirely on your iPhone's processor. It does not communicate with any external service. Your conversations and photos do not leave your device.
